I chose to use this photo because I am constantly seeing this in my life and I feel that I finally get to share my feelings on ignorance. Today, for my Ethnics class, we went to a presentation for the FCC and once the speaker was done he directed us to a group activity, but we weren't able to choose our groups. I'm all for working with others, but I tend to have unfortunate luck with groups that are given to me and today was no exception. The people I was paired with were from another Ethnics class and they had no interest in completing the task and would rather talk about the wild parties and how boring baseball was than help me. So I completed the assignment, thanks to Cynthia helping me, and what this group of lazy potatoes do? One of them walks over and tells me, "Oh! You're finally done!" and then tells me how I could have done better.
Now, I am all for tolerating people, but the fact that I had just met this girl and she had the audacity to tell me this when Cynthia and I were the only ones providing to the group infuriated me. I don't find it fair or just when a small percentage of a group does the work and the slackers get the same amount of credit as the ones who did the actual work. I wanted to say something, but I knew that what I would do would reflect onto Cindy, so I bit my tongue. However, I will admit I had some colorful words for her in my mind.
The interesting thing was that every person from my class had the same problem in their groups, so obviously this other class does not care about their education. This made me feel really great knowing that I was surrounded by students that actually give a damn about their futures. It truly made me proud to call these crazy groups of girls (and 1 boy) my classmates.
So in conclusion, I will continue to tolerate those who have no business in a group environment. It'll be interesting to see where they'll end up in life.
P.S. I saw this funny post on FaceBook the other day on group assignments and it really made me laugh. The guy posted, "When I die, I want the people I had group projects with to lower me into the ground so they can let me down on last time."
